The Letter
November 30, 2020
To come across great talent is
a rare and extraordinary gift
Hi Everybody!

I am Tatyana Pfaifer, the one who created The Jewellery Masterpiece Awards. In fact, it took me 2,5 years to finally shape this particular concept. So, I thought why not to take you through all the ideas that crossed my mind and, by the way, got some development.

Well, everything started in 2018. I was trying to recall how exactly the first thoughts came to my mind, but I couldn't. So, let's move forward. Miraculously, you see me in 2019 coming up with the first real concept.
Concept 1 - The Jewellery Masterpiece Awards is a global jewellery designers' reality competition.

Yup, I wanted The Jewellery Masterpiece Awards to be streamed on TV in reality show format. So, I thought of Netflix to buy it like Netflix Original. It could be an exciting project, by the way. I have planned to hold competitions in seven cities in order to make it international. The most inspiring part was creating assignments for designers. Here's a glimpse:

A Mood board brought in studio (flower, street lamp, hammer....whatever). The contestants have to create the design that draws inspiration from that Mood board.
A runway show of the invited designer. The contestants have to make the designs of jewellery which will complement the outfits he or she chooses.
Creating designs that draw inspiration from the lectures given by art historians. For example: the jewellery art of Mesoamerica, an Art déco style.
Creating designs for historical, literature characters – create a piece for Diana, Princess of Wales, Margaret Thatcher, Frida Kahlo or Alice from the "Alice in Wonderland".. etc.

Well, the whole thing was interrupted by one person who said: "Awards. You put the word awards in the name. It must be like the Oscar, the show, celebrities ... you love the whole thing."

And it's showtime!
Concept 2 - The Jewellery Masterpiece Awards - a set of awards, given annually to recognize the excellence in the jewellery world, voting on by the leading figures of the jewellery industry LIVE in the venue.

Not wishing to tire you, I am leaving the presentation here. Of course, I have it! Could you expect me not to make it?
It's 2020. But, we are not landed yet. And now you know exactly why - the pandemic. The first understanding of how to move forward came to me around August 2020. So, let's fly straight to the October 2020 to my final version.
Concept 3 - The Jewellery Masterpiece Awards are given annually to honor excellence and artistry in the Jewellery world.

How was it born?

Dare I say it, but I devised my own formula for what makes artists successful in the jewellery world.

Funding, obviously;
You have to be featured in different media;
Your pieces ought to be auctioned;
It's good if they're showcased for sale in galleries;
The exhibition gives you many opportunities.
Collaborations with the fashion world will attract more clients.

This actually reflects the whole concept of the Jewellery Masterpiece Awards today. Funding is cash prizes, whereas the rest I tried to deliver to you as special prizes. Some of them have been achieved!

It was really important for me to bring this particular kind of concept, and not focusing on the cash awards only.

Why?

Recognition is an important word. And it can be achieved in different ways. Besides, in all competitions it is a common practice to choose the winners by general voting. Speaking about our competition, apart from cash winners, each judge will choose their own favorites.

Our Judges are all big people, and they spent most of their lifetime dealing with jewellery and life itself. They have diverse perspectives on aesthetics, various experience, and different approaches to evolving. That's why I wanted contestants to hear each Judge's Voice separately. Not to mention it gives more possibilities for artists to get rewards.

Now, let me take a minute to praise our Judges!!

No kidding, only God knows how grateful I am for your time!

Let's make a stop on the Excellence in Jewellery Writing award - it's actually one of its kind in the world!!

I was raised to respect people's work. I cannot tell you that I always followed it, but I definitely always came back to this point.

While traveling around the world for the last 6 years I met unbelievable people, and I wore and saw unique and rare jewellery pieces which I would have never had a chance to wear if I wasn't an influencer. It was my way to explore the jewellery world. Tell me, how else would I have had a chance to wear 50 carat D colour diamond, pieces of JAR, Wallace Chan, and Glenn Spiro? Well, I actually know the one - I could have bought their pieces. All right, let it be the next step!

Well, back to the point.

When I saw that kind of art, I wanted the whole world to see it as well. I wished to deliver my appreciation to the artists.

First, I have been doing that through my Instagram page and then I wanted to create something bigger, to set links between influential players of the industry - to give opportunities to find one another in the easiest possible way.

The Gala Dinner was a part of that plan. By the way, I am still dreaming about it. Next year, hopefully?

It looks like 2,5 years is a long time. It actually is. But maybe all these changes in my project were inevitable since everything was about to change in the world, even back then. I just like you, guys, didn't have a clue about that.

However, one thing has never changed. I`ve never doubted the Jewellery Masterpiece Awards existence. It was born out of my respect for jewellery as an art, wishing to inspire the enthusiasm of everyone involved in the jewellery world and lift jewellery to the level of major world art.

P.S.

The other day I was surfing through the internet trying to get some inspiration. I wanted to change the names of some awards. And I bumped into the book "Jewelry Design Challenge: 10 Materials * 30 Artists * 30 Spectacular Projects" by Linda Kopp, and bought it.

Only when I was writing this letter I figured out that the circle has finally been completed. This book actually reflects my original idea number 1.

This is going to be my next move. I can make the design context online, can't I? And it sounds even better. Hence, the designers will have time to make proper drawings, both computer-drafted and hand-drafted.

Today is November 14th, 2020. Let's see how much time it will take this time.
Well, well, well, that last line was supposed to be the end.

However, today is November 15th, Sunday. Don't know what happened that night. Could it be that I started writing this letter and memories came back to me as to why I actually started the project or is it Indian Diwali, or a new moon, or whatever? Suddenly I realized that I didn't make any awards for incredible Indian artists and always exploring reality conceptual artists.

Took off racing

Why?

It seems that easy, but to add new categories you have to bring respective members of Jury.

So I put the letter on pause.

Meanwhile, would it be interesting for you to know why I actually started writing it?

Simple! We were about to move the website to a domain name. There is a "Press" menu item on it. And the manager who carried out the project told me: Tatyana, there will be an empty space there. Why don't you write any note on the weekend?" Seriously? Any note? What am I supposed to write about? Didn't you notice that I am not a writer…?

And here I am…surprisingly finding myself writing the letter ✉ and feeling so good sharing a part of the story.

21.11. 2020

It's been a test on confidence. Suddenly I decided to change categories` names again, prizes` amounts ...thanks God I didn't want to start developing a website from zero.

Anyway, we are back on track. We added a few special prizes and respectively new judges for new categories.

24.11. 2020

The last changes on the website are being made.

It was so nice to talk to you, guys. I even got used to it. But I have to finish. This letter must be placed on the website too.

Launching soon.

See you on jewellery_masterpiece

The End (Beginning)

So that was expected to be the end, but it wasn't.

Today is 25.02.2021; we are launching tomorrow. I must have finished the letter.

I won't bother you with the details about where I was stuck - if you are interested, ask me and I will reply. It's better that I tell you that during this time we got two more special prizes for you, and accordingly, two more members of the jury.

Maybe we have been waiting for everyone to join?

I hope everyone who touches The Jewellery Masterpiece Awards will get what he or she really needs for their stage of life. Fingers crossed.
